B-26G #43-34370.

Shortly after taking off from airfield A-60 in Persan-Beaumont, France, on a mission to bomb the communication center at Putzlohn, Germany, the airplane came too close to a leading B-26 in the formation element and got caught in a prop-wash torrent and quickly lost control.

Just eight minutes into the mission, the bomber was knocked over and went into an uncontrollable spiral and crashed into the ground and exploded, 8 km. north of Rantigny, near Bois de la Sablonniere, killing the six-man crew. Pilot Lt. Williams had much experience flying, and trained new pilots stateside, but lacked experience flying the B-26, particularly when heavily loaded with ordnances.

Crewmembers were:

2LT Kenneth I Williams, O-734290, TX, Pilot

2LT Leo A Kehn, O-713767, OH, Co-Pilot

FLT OFF Glenn H Tiger, T-126259, NJ, Bombardier-Navigator

SGT Donald E Kelly, 39700402, CA, Gunner
