S/Sgt. Garland B. Jeffries was the son of Lillian Taylor and Cecil Bryant Jeffries, and was just 22 at the time of his death. Garland received the Purple Heart Medal and an Air Medal.

Garland joined the U.S. Air Force and saw heavy combat missions as a gunner, with the 425th Bomber Squadron 308th Bomber, culminating on May 20, 1944, first in the region of France, and eventually over the Pacific Ocean in the Marshall Islands.

This stone is a Cenotaph because his body was never recovered. There is also a Monument honoring him and others at Fort William Mckinley, Manila, the Philippines.

Gravesite Details

Garland is buried next to his parents, Lillian and Cecil, and two of his brothers, Marvin and Billy. They are on the far right road in Horse Cave Cemetery, about 2/3 of the way down that side on your right.
