The Sunset Cemetery aka Tigardville aka Tigard Evangelical Lutheran - German aka Emanuel Cemetery. The cemetery is located in Tigard WASHINGTON Oregon - Southeast side of OR Highway 99W (southwest of Pacific Hwy) and opposite the junction of Bull Mountain Road with OR Highway 99W (southwest Pacific Hwy. A small gravel road marked "dead end" and "road closed" goes up the side of the hill about 300 feet, where it branches left between two trees into a small graveled parking area. Here you'll find a tiny pice of history -- the Sunset Pioneer Cemetery.
Herman's grave marker is gone but even though I did not know this young man of about 11 year, I feel saddened. The cemetery must have been a beautiful place at one time among the tall trees. I have visted the cemetery as I have family buried there. Herman's brother George Albert Behnke married into my family, marrying Clara S. Boland. Clara is buried in the cemetery along with her parents, George & Malinda Boland as will as George Albert and Herman's parents, Frederick & Julia Behnke. George & Malinda are my great-great grandparents. I will not go again to the cemetery. I have visited and all is well there. It saddens me to go there.
