George was born about 1860 in California. Nothing more is known of his birth family. In 1885 he was living in Portland where he was a bootblack (shoe shiner). On 2/10/1885 he was admitted to the Oregon State Hospital, a residential facility in Salem, Oregon for the treatment of people with mental illness. He was listed among the patients at the state hospital on the censuses of 1895, 1900, 1910 and 1920. After being a patient at the institution for over 42 years he died there of heart disease on 4/3/1927. He was 67 years old.
