HYDE PARK, UTAH-Stanton Lee Allen , 85, of Hyde Park, died Wednesday, October 23, 2002 on his 85th Birthday, at the Logan Regional Hospital of blood cancer which was diagnosed ten days earlier. He was born October 23, 1917 in Magna, Utah a son of Herbert Lee and Matilda Smith Allen. He married Mary Knowles of Ogden on July 19, 1939. They have been married for 63 years. He retired at age 77 after working 58 years. He graduated from Granite High School in Salt Lake City. He started work for Pacific Fruit and Produce Company in Salt Lake City where he met his wife. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and especially loved hiking the Windriver Range and floating the Green River. After moving to Logan in 1939 he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in scouting and other youth programs. Later in life he would served in many callings including Bishop, Stake President and Patriarch. He continued working for Pacific Fruit as the manager of the Logan branch. In 1958 he was transferred to Scottsbluff, Nebraska, but after a year he decided to return to Logan and start a new vocation as an agent for State Farm Insurance. He had one of the most successful agencies in the company. In the 1970's Stan started a small seat cover business using saddle blankets. He named it ALCO and it provided employment for many in Cache Valley for a number of years. Stan and Mary sponsored well over two hundred Southeast Asian refugees at the request of the Catholic Relief Agency. They provided food, clothing and housing to get them started and then helped them find employment. Now many are successful in their own businesses and remain close friends. Stan is survived by his wife, Mary, two children, Sharron and Val Lindsay, Orem; David and Judy Allen, Hyde Park, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, two brothers, Herbert and Vilate Allen; Murray; LeRoy B. and Betty Allen, Salt Lake City; two sisters, Barbara and Eldon Gibby, Salt Lake City; Wilma Kracaw, Blackfoot, ID. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Allen. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in the Hyde Park Stake Center, 500 East 200 South with Bishop Craig Champlin conducting. Friends may call at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center, Friday from 6-8:00 p.m. and at the church on Sat. from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery. The family would like to extend thanks to the staff at the Logan Regional hospital for their special care.
