James Robert Broome
Mr. Broome, 84, of Matthews, NC passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Lake Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 11, 1922 in Indian Trail, NC the son of the late Martin Luther and Mollie Kindley Broome. He was a decorated WW II Army Veteran serving in Germany and France in the 70th Infantry Division.

Mr. Broome retired after 33 years with Pullman Trailmobile when its shop closed in Charlotte. For many years, he enjoyed working a vegetable garden and spending time with his family and friends. Many reunions that included his large family were held at his home. James and his wife were longtime members of Grace Crossing Baptist Church Fellowship, which was formerly known as Shamrock Drive Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 24, 2007 at McEwen Funeral Service Mint Hill Chapel, officiated by Pastor Mike Jamison. Graveside services with military honors will follow the service at Sharon Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home from 12:30 P.M. until 2:00 P.M.

James is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 60 years, Elizabeth ["Lib"] Preslar Broome of the home; his daughter, Barbara Gillis and husband Dewey of Flovilla, GA; his two brothers, Ray Broome and wife Virginia of San Antonia, TX and Kenneth W. Broome and wife Louise of Mt. Pleasant, NC; his two sisters, Shirley Broome Mayrand and husband Russell of Pensacola, FL and Betty Broome Hostetler and husband Conrad of Ocala, FL; three granddaughters; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three step-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Broome Belk; and four brothers, Luther, Arthur, David, and Martin L. Broome, Jr.

Memorial may be made to Grace Crossing Baptist Fellowship, P.O. Box 44248-2750, East W.T. Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28215 or to the charity of donor's choice.
Arrangements are in the care of McEwen Funeral Service Mint Hill Chapel.
