The story and of a farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Millard Hoak in Winslows Mills was destroyed by fire last Saturday afternoon, April 9th, it was believed the blaze started from on overheated chimney and was discovered by Mrs. Fannie Cross, a cousin of Mr. and Mrs. Hoak. Mrs. Cross, who lived with the couple, was alone in the house at the time of the fire and upon discovering it notified Roy Bragg and Anson Ludwig, neighbors, who called the Waldoboro Fire Department. Near by neighbors and firemen were able to save most of the furnishings in spite of a strong wind which fanned the flames. The men fought the fire with water secured from wells and a brock on the Ludwig farm but it had gained too much of a start before its destroyed. When the fire broke out Mrs. Hoak was in Rockland and Mr. Hoak was in Waldoboro. The barn sheltering several head of cattle did not burn, as it was across the road. The house was on the east side of the Medomak River.
