and formerly of San Diego, CA, died at the Goodall Hospital in Sanford on Wednesday evening May 22, 2002. He went home to be with the Lord after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born in Dover-Foxcroft, ME on February 6, 1948, a son of Philip and Dorothy Bridges. His family moved to San Diego, CA when he was six years old and he was a graduate of Grossmont High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. After his discharge, he returned to college and completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting at San Diego State University. He was employed by Dun and Bradstreet for 25 years, but left the company to pursue his lifelong dream of returning to Maine.

On October 1, 1983 he married Pamela A. Vernon, an elementary school teacher, and together they relocated to Sanford, ME in July of 1995. He loved returning to the grassroots form of government in New England and was an active Town meeting Member. He served on the Warrant Committee, was active on the committee for remodeling the Sanford Memorial Gymnasium, and was looking forward to running for a position as Selectman in the future. He was an avid worker for programs that benefited children and was the treasurer for the Camp Chewonki Program at Waterboro Elementary School.

He also enjoyed researching genealogy, and was an active member of the Sanford/Springvale Rotary and the Sanford First Baptist Church.

Predeceasing him is his father Philip.

Surviving is his mother Dorothy Bridges of Sanford, his wife Pamela (Vernon) Bridges of Sanford, a son Ben Vernon of Springvale, a sister Judith and Chuck Bridges Smith of Tracy, CA and two nieces, Diana Smith of Tracy, CA and Carolyn Graessle of California, MD.

Friends are invited to attend a 1:30 PM memorial service for Mr. Bridges at the Sanford First Baptist Church on Saturday June 8, 2002.
