Roy Lumley was born and spent his early years in Oklahoma. He had a difficult childhood, and lost his father to a gunshot in a dispute over cattle in 1927 in Ponca City, OK. From there, he and his siblings spent a number of years in the Western Oklahoma State School for White Children, and orphanage, because his mother could not support them. He later served as a combat infantryman in the 84th "Railsplitters" Infantry Division. His unit fought heavily in France, Belgium, and Germany (including the Battle of the Bulge).

Roy E. Lumley, 77, of Modesto died Friday at his home.

Mr. Lumley was a native of Oklahoma. He lived in Modesto eighteen years.

He was a maintenance mechanic for thirty-five years, and belonged to the Teamsters Union. In World War II,

He was survived by his wife, Dolores; and sister, Lucille, and a vigil was conducted at Machado's Hillside Chapel, Hayward.

A funeral will be conducted Thursday at the chapel.

Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hayward.
