Freddie Lee Banks, 65, of the Chuckey community, died Saturday evening due to injuries received in an automobile accident. He retired from Hurd Lock & Manufacturing Company after 40 years of employment. His family stated, "Mr. Banks was a kind and gentle man. He loved to hunt and fish. He also liked to work with his cattle, and he was always ready to help friends and neighbors."
Survivors include his wife: Rita Waddell Banks; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Freda and Homer Malone of Greeneville, Della Villalba of Limestone, and Patsy and Timothy Babb of Baileyton; one son and daughter-in-law: Edward and Stacey Banks of Greeneville; nine grandchildren: Nathan Malone, Brian Malone, Amanda Malone, Kourtney Cannon, Cameron Cannon, Felicia Banks, Aaron Banks, Casey Moss, and Shantelle Smith; four brothers and two sisters-in-law: Allen Banks Jr. of Elizabethton, and Billy and Teresa Banks, Steve and Minnie Banks, and James Banks, all of Greeneville; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Charlotte McCrary of Chuckey, Debbie and Terry Malone of Afton, and Linda and Jimmy Perkins of Surgoinsville; several nieces and nephews; two special aunts and an uncle: Joyce and Jay Johnson of Limestone, and Mary Sue Knight; one stepdaughter and her husband: Stephanie and Gary Burdett of Jacksonville, Fla.; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Denver and Marilyn Waddell of Kingston, Ill., Lynda and Garry Lamb of Greeneville, and Karen and Dennis Jones of Knoxville; his special friends: Angie and Johnny Barnett of Jonesborough and Willford and Marion Hensley and Joe Bitner, all of Chuckey; and a special friend of the family: Rose Webb of Greeneville. The son of the late Allen and Edith Banks and was also preceded in death by his first wife: Emily Banks; one brother: Wayne Banks, and one sister: Shirley Banks.
