"Laura F. Stephenson, 93, nee Ross, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at Knopp Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the chapel of Beckmann Funeral Home with the Rev. George Watts officiating. Martha Lucas was the organist and Wes Dean, the vocalist. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Stephenson was born July 12, 1916 in Bay City, the daughter of Fred R. Ross Sr. and Nellie Belle Tracey (sic) Ross. She married Roy Earvy Stephenson on April 7, 1933 in Tyler. He preceded her in death.
Over the years, Mrs. Stephenson was active at the churches she and her husband attended, serving as Sunday School teacher, activities director, greeter, welcome wagon member and cook for camping groups. Prior to moving to Fredericksburg in 1975, they were long-time members of Minnetex Community Church in Houston. Locally, they were founding members of Faith Baptist Church. She also volunteered with the Hill Country memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Mrs. Stephenson is survived by one daughter, two sons and spouses. She is also survived by five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and a brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Lois Ross of Fredericksburg.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Stephenson was preceded in death by a sister, Clara [Viola Ross] West, and three brothers, including George Ross, Ed Ross and Fred Ross Jr."
