He loved to camp near the river in Californi'a Arroyo Seco State Park; he hiked the Grand Canyon; he traveled to New Zealand and very much loved its scenery. Pat read a great deal and covered a huge range of subjects, spy thrillers to science fiction to biographies. He loved to read about Native American history.

Survivors besides his son Ryan include his sister, Sharon (Clancey) Kriewall (Art Kriewall), and eight nieces and nephews; there are nine great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece. His parents and his sister Colleen (Clancey) Pigeon preceded him in death.
