Married Louisa Caroline Grant on October 20, 1847, Pike County. Illinois. Emigrated to California in 1864 to Folsom, later removed to Texas with his family, but returned to California in a few years to Knights Landing, then to Woodland(then called Cachevill.)

Miller donated $1,000 to help build the Christian Church at Woodland, where he was an Elder.

Both are buried in Woodland Cemetery, Yolo County, California.

Four children born in Martinsburg Township, Pike Co. Illinois. Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) Goodin, 7-20-1848; Robert Frank Goodin, b. 6-2-1854; Susan C. Goodin b 1-9-1859; Sebastian Hardin (Hardy) Goodin b. 3-12-1860.
