Joel Campbell Demarest was the son of Cornelius Demarest and Abigail Demarest. He was married in 1869 to Harriet Emma Rorick, who may also be buried in this cemetery. She was the daughter of Mark and Anne Moore Rorick. Their son was Arthur C. Demarest. Joel and Harriet lived in Lafayette, NJ. Following Harriet's death in 1923, Joel lived with his granddaughter Josephine Demarest Mauchet in Jersey City, where he died on September 3, 1928, as reported in the Jersey Journal.
