Dorr Kellogg came from Cayuga County, N.Y., on horseback, in 1825, and remained a few weeks, buying some land. He returned in 1836 and, in company with his brother built a mill about 1 1/2 miles up the river from the city, known as the McMahon mill, which was burned a few years ago. Since 1874 he had been living a retired life at the University city. In 1835 he went with a brother to Buenos Ayres, South America, being on the water 47 days, the time being the shortest that had been made. He had held many responsible offices, having been Justice of the Peace, City Collector and City Treasurer. He died in Battle Creek, Mich., March 15th, 1884. They had no children.
