Calvin Allen Jr. was born December 12, 1836 in Hartland VT, the son of Calvin and Polly (Norris) Allen. Calvin lived in Keene, NH when he enlisted in the 14th Reg. NH Vol. Inf. in Co. G on December 8, 1863 when he was 27 years old. He mustered out with his regiment at the conclusion of the war on July 8, 1865, PO address, West Rindge, NH. He married 1st, April 3, 1862, Jane Candis Allen daughter of Oratio P. and Candis (Pratt) Allen of Rindge. Between 1873 and 1876 Calvin and Jane lived in Keene, NH, thereafter in Rindge, NH. She died October 12, 1890. He married 2nd, August 8, 1897, Alice Florence (Wilder) Bemis, the daughter of Elijah and Susan (Howe) Wilder and widow of Willey A. Bemis of Fitzwilliam. Calvin was involved in the merchant trade and was the Postmaster at West Rindge for some time. He was also involved in woodenware manufacturing. Calvin was a Rindge selectman for the years 1893, 94 and 95. He represented the town in the state legislature in 1899. He died June 19, 1904. He had one child with his second wife.
