Arnold was a son of Alfred and Marie (Johnson) Andersen. When he was 11 years old, the family moved to Dane Valley, north of Culbertson. He finished his schooling in Culbertson, graduating in 1936.

In 1940, Arnold came to Butte Creek, north of Peerless, to help his brother Milton farm. He served overseas in Africa and Italy in WWII. He returned to Peerless and in July of 1945, married Mildred Fladager in Scobey. They started their family farm that year and continued until Arnold retired in 1985. Arnold lived on the farm until the fall of 2001, when he moved into Scobey.

Arnold was preceded in death by his wife, Millie, in 1997; a grandson, Duane, in 1966; a great-granddaughter, Sharon, in 2002; a daughter-in-law, Dorothea Andersen in 2003; his sister, Lucille Olsen; and brothers Milton, Vernon and Maynard Andersen.

Survivors include two daughters, Rachel (Dave) McCloy of Circle, Jewel (Rod) Hagen of Billings; two sons, Melvin Andersen and Myron (Connie) Andersen, both of Peerless; two sisters, Myrt (Leonard) Bauer of Avoca, Iowa, and Ruby Lindstrom of Coon Rapids, Minn.; one brother, Wes (Elaine) Andersen of Mindon, Neb.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
