World War I veteran.

Survived the torpedoing & sinking of the troopship "Tuscania" on 5 February 1918 in the North Channel between Scotland & Ireland by German submarine, UB-77, as a corporal in the 100th Aero Squadron. He returned from war on the "Leviathan" in June 1919, as a corporal in the 170th Aero Squadron.

His first marriage occurred 26 January 1914 in Alameda County CA to Florence J. Remmert. This received newspaper coverage because the 17-year-old bride had disappeared from her house in Oakland CA on 24 January 1914. The police of California were searching for her after her mother sent her description to all police departments on the coast. Early reports identified the groom as the wrong Edgar D. Brownell, who was a married man. The correct Edgar was a stationery engineer at the People's Water Company of Berkeley CA.

The couple is divorced by the 1920 census., when Edgar describes himself as single. Florence marries William Wernher Gyger. Florence's Find A Grave record is at 87850613.

On 27 January 1921, Edgar marries Marian Francis Cole in Alameda County CA. A year later, in January 1922, she files for divorce . By 1930 she is married to Fred Traverso/Travers. Marian, born 7 July 1896 in New York, dies as Marian Traverso in Alameda County CA on 29 December 1959.
