Ralph Behrens age 70, of Echo died Monday, January 24, 2011. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel in Echo with burial in the Appleton City Cemetery at a later date.Visitation will be from 1 to 2 pm on Thursday at the Funeral Home in Echo. Sunset Funeral and Cremation Association of Echo and Wabasso are in charge of the arrangements.

Ralph LeRoy Behrens was born on April 20, 1940 in Appleton to Irene (Schroeder) and William Behrens Jr. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Appleton. He attended school in Appleton and graduated in 1958. He joined the United States Army in 1958 and was a member of the 101st Airborne Paratroopers. He married Marguerite Hanson in 1960 and later divorced. Ralph served in Germany and was honorably discharged in 1961. On January 25, 1964 he married Carol Bergjord and they lived together in the Montevideo, Osseo, Granite Falls, and Echo areas. Ralph worked construction and drove truck throughout his life and also had a hobby farm. He enjoyed coon hunting, trapping, animals, birds, reading and visiting with friends and relatives.

Ralph died on Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Redwood Falls Area Hospital at the age of 70 years, 9 months and 4 days.

He is survived by his wife Carol, Children; Monica (Steve) Freeberg of Ivins, UT, Kimberly (David) Chase of Wahpeton, ND, Fawn (Milo) Smith of Grand Forks, ND, Anita (John) Dulmage of Ramsey, MN. Grandchildren; Eric and Melissa Freeberg, Sydney and Sarah Chase, Carolyn and Mason Smith, John, William and Brooke Dulmage. Also surviving are sisters; Beatrice Shelstad of Clinton, MN, Pat (Jim) Jaskoviak of Forest City, IA and brothers; Helmer (Joyce) Behrens of Sun City, AZ and Arvid (Jan) Behrens of Elysian, MN, brother-in- aw, Stanley (Millie) Wilts of rural Appleton, MN and sister-in-law, Dee Behrens of Appleton, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Beverly Wilts, and two brothers, Roger and Allan Behrens.
