HAMMERBERG, Robert J. - Of Clio, age 85, died Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Genesys Health Park. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at St. Charles & Helena Catholic Church, 230 E. Vienna St., Clio,. Family will receive visitors at Dodds Dumanois Funeral Home and Cremation Center from 12-7PM Sunday and from 3-9PM Monday. Scripture Service to be held 7PM Monday at the Funeral Home. Fr. Jerry Ploof officiating. Robert was born in Kipling, MI June 21, 1922 the son of Jonas and Elizabeth (Leaveck) Hammerberg. He attended and was in the first graduating class from Central High School in Flint, MI. Robert was joined in marriage to Barbara (McCool) in Lakehurst, NJ December 16, 1944. He loved his water garden, especially loved traveling each year to the Upper Peninsula with his family to hunt and enjoy the surroundings. Robert also helped with the Pillars of Character with the Clio School System, he was a charter member of the National WWII Memorial Park in Clio and helped with its construction, he volunteered for many events with the American Legion Post 158, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Post 524. Robert was a loving father and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Barbara, 6 children: Bob (Rose) Hammerberg, Owen (Ann) Hammerberg, Mike (Pat) Hammerberg, John (Jill) Hammerberg, Mary Cochrane, Terry (Marcia) Hammerberg; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Mary Lou Hammerberg and many nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by brothers Edward and Harold Hammerberg and his uncle Owen who was a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor. Donations may be made to the National WWII Memorial Park, Clio, MI.
