Marjorie was the daughter of James Edward Wharton and Rose Phoebe Swiger. Her siblings were E. Ruth Conte, Edward Henry Wharton, Edna Rose Jensen, Kenneth Evan Wharton, and James Robert Wharton. She was born in Columbus but her family moved to New Marshfield when she was about one. Her family moved to Port Clinton, Ohio in 1927. She was a junior in High School. Marjorie married Harold Augustus Masing in 1931 and they had three children : Harold Edward, Roy Gene, and Ruth Louise.
