Son of Godfrey de Louvain, Duke of Brabant and Ida de Chiny, born about 1110. Husband of Luitgarde de Sulzbach, daughter of Berengar II of Sulzbach.
After receiving his ducal title, he warred (and won) against Henry II of Limburg, who laid claim to Henry's properties. Godfrey's son, Godfrey III, would marry Henry's daughter, Margaret.
Godfrey died of liver disease.
