Born Dec. 1, 1928, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of Roy and Edna Scarff Garrels. On April 6, 1947, she married Dale Allen in Mount Pleasant
Mrs. Garrels was a homemaker, farmed with her husband and worked at Shores Drug Store in New London.
She graduated from Yarmouth School in 1946.
She was a member of New London United Methodist Church.
She was an Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan.
She enjoyed working outdoors, helping her husband on the farm during harvest, raccoon hunting, mushroom hunting, playing games and cards at family get-togethers and basketball.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Chuck Allen of Danville and James Allen of New London; two daughters, Dalene Pickle and Connie Housman, both of New London; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alta Dockendorff of Danville and Erma Mertens of Mount Pleasant.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Burial in Burge Cemetery, rural New London.
