He was the son of Mathias Bialk (Balke) and Marianna Drewa, husband of Elisabeth (née Bora) and the father of Franz Anton, August Emil, Johann Albert, Anton Andreas and Joseph Felix Balke. August married Elisabeth in 1876 at Rheda (Reda), West Prussia.
