Alfred L. Bastien was born on Nov. 22, 1913 in Murphysboro to Samuel A. and Anna Craude [sic] (Krause) Bastien. His siblings include Mabel Borgsmiller of Murphysboro and three brothers and three sisters who preceded him in death.

He married Virginia G. Tuthill on May 26, 1937 in Murphysboro. She preceded him in death. He then married Audrey Holt on August 6, 1970 in Murphysboro. She survives. He has three children, Sue Thompson, Tom and Jerry, all of Dade City, Fla. He also had three step-children -- Sandy Hines and Rick Lavell of Murphysboro and Donna Luckey of Streator.

Mr. Bastien was the retired owner of Bastien's Food Store in Murphysboro and a retired salesman for the Mills Distributing Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Murphysboro.

He died at the age of 67 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Marion after a long illness.
