Gerald "Jerry" Miller

Gerald Herman "Jerry" Miller, age 88 years, passed away January 29, 2013 into the hands of the Lord after a brief illness at McLaren Bay Region. Rejoining his beloved wife Loretta Clara Miller whom he married on May 17, 1947 in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bay City, Michigan. Jerry was born September 22, 1924 in Bay City, the son of the late Henry and Clara (Gottleber) Miller and resided in this area all of his life. Gerald was a proud veteran and served with the United States Army during WWII from 1943 until 1945. He was in the HQ 628th QM Battalion and in December of 1944 their battalion was cut off by the Battle of the Bulge. After the truce was signed they were moved out of the Pacific Area. Orders came in November of 1945 and he was given an honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant. He was shipped home and he landed in the states on Christmas Day, of 1945. Jerry dated and married Loretta Underwood and they made their home in Bay City. He was formerly employed and retired from the State of Michigan Employment Security Commission. Jerry loved sports, played golf and was an avid bowler for many years.

Surviving family members include a brother, Henry "Hank" Jr. and wife Patricia Miller of Bay City, and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta C. Miller on October 22, 2012, his parents, Henry and Clara, two brothers and two sisters; Raymond Miller, Clarence "Clem" Miller, Helen Miller, Irene Snable and four sisters-in-law; Pearl Miller, June Miller, Leona Morisette, Alma Cichocki, four brothers-in-law; Stanley Snable, Henry Underwood, Ted Cichocki and Jack L. Morisette.

Funeral and committal will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. Kevin C. Jones officiating with private interment at Floral Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Jerry will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Those desiring may make a contribution to the "Buy A Brick Fund" at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
