BELLEVILLE – William A. Legler, age 76, died on Tuesday, July 2, 1974, at the Veterans Hospital, Madison.
Born on July 26, 1897 in Belleville, Wisconsin, he was a retired farmer and former Brooklyn area businessman. Mr. Legler was a World War I veteran. He retired to Brooklyn in 1951 and moved to Belleville on May of 1974. Mr. Legler was married to Anna M. Schmid in 1919 in Belleville. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Belleville, and the Brooklyn American Legion Post No. 160. He was very active in Brooklyn community functions.
Survivors include two sons, Ivan Legler Sr. and William Legler Jr., both of rural Brooklyn; two daughters, Mrs. Ole Lein and Mrs. Glen Rasmussen, both of rural Brooklyn; two brothers, Herman of Sun Prairie, Emil of Verona; a sister, Mrs. J. Henry Schmid, Belleville; 25 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Walter, George, Jake and Fred.
Funeral services will be held at First United Church of Christ, Belleville at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 5. The Reverend Howard Beul will officiate. Burial in the Belleville Cemetery. Friends may call after 12:30 p.m. at the church before services. The Becker Funeral Home, Belleville is in charge of arrangements.
