Joyce Marilyn Openshaw Madsen, 87, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2011 at Carrington Court Assisted Living Center in South Jordan, Utah, surrounded by her family. She was born April 13, 1924, in Santaquin, Utah, a daughter of Rupert Floyd and Eliza Dot Tietjen Openshaw. She graduated from Payson High School in Payson, Utah.

On March 3, 1945, Joyce married Gordon Hollis Madsen in Santaquin, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She worked in the Weber County School District as a Para-Professional in the Mathematics Department at Weber High School in Ogden and as the school secretary at North Park Elementary School in Roy. She also served many years as an election judge.

Since 1957 she has lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Roy, Utah, Brentwood, California and South Jordan, Utah.

Joyce was a member of the LDS Church for her entire life and held many positions in various organizations. She worked extensively in the music departments. She also worked many years, with her husband, as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple.

She had a great love of music, played the piano and organ, directed choirs and loved to sing.

Joyce is survived by her son, Dennis Gordon (Sherry) Madsen, South Jordan; six grandchildren: Andrew, Amy, Jeremy, Brandon, Heather, Rachell; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Elaine Nelson of Salt Lake City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 19th at 2 p.m. at the Roy 13th LDS Ward, 5127 S. 2400 W., Roy, Utah with Bishop Randy Carter officiating.

The family will meet with friends on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S., Roy and Monday from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at the Roy 13th Ward Chapel.
