Albert passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 96 on May 26, 2011. He was born in the coal mining town of Spiketon, WA on April 9, 1915 to Frank and Anna (Nelson) Anderson and spent his growing up years in Wilkeson where he had many fond boyhood memories that he shared with his 5 siblings. He grew up during the depression and left home at an early age, traveling the rails for several years. He spent his remaining years in Tacoma and retired from St. Regis Paper Company at the age of 65.
Al enjoyed many hours of fishing over the years. He was an avid sports fan and was very unhappy when his Sonics Basketball Team left the area. Until recent years, he walked several miles a day and impressed his family with the number of sit ups and push ups he could still do to stay fit.
Preceding Al in death was his beloved wife Charlotte of 56 years, 3 brothers, one of which was a twin, and 2 sisters. Left to mourn and greatly miss him are his 4 loving daughters, Dorene (Orval) Heath, Colleen Anderson (of Chico California), Gayle (Rick) Strait, and Pam Pace, who lived with and looked after dad for the last 6 years. Also left to mourn are 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Al was so proud and appreciative of all his family. A graveside memorial service will be held at Calvary Cemetery on August 3, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. Memorials may be made in Albert’s name to Special Olympics or American Cancer Society.
