Last Rites Held for Chas. Bowers
Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church in Clarissa for Charles Bowers, A Clarissa community resident for 33 years. Rev. Harold Clark, pastor, officiated at the last rites at 2 p. m. and hymns were sung by Russell Lerfald and Mrs Lloyd Reierson. Mrs. Don Bain was the organist.

Interment was made in the Woodman cemetery, east of the village, with Adolph Johnson, Gordon Hokanson, Roland Swanberg, Rueben Swanberg, Herbert Broberg and Clayton Dahlman acting as pallbearers.

Death came to Mr. Bowers at 7:15 a. m. last Wednesday morning at the Shady Lane Nursing Home in Wadena where he had been residing the past three months. He suffered a coronary attack which caused him to fall, receiving a severe injury on the side of his head and he died moments later. On the day following his death he would have been 81 years old.

Charles Arthur Bowers was born on January 26, 1880 in Riceville, Iowa. There he received his education and grew to manhood. On March 8, 1899 he was united in marriage to Jennie Mae Holston. The couple adopted a little girl who was a niece of Mrs. Bowers. Later two children were born, a daughter, Mrs. Roland (Margaret) Johnson of Clarissa and a son who died at birth.

The family lived in Riceville until 1927 at which time they moved to a farm about three miles northwest of Clarissa. Mrs. Bowers passed away in 1937.

On October 11, 1949, Mr. Bowers was again married to Anna Jackson of Clarissa who preceded him in death on September 18, 1956. After her death Mr. Bowers made his home with his daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, on their farm near Clarissa.

The deceased was the last member of a family of two brothers and two sisters. A brother, John Bowers, of Eagle Bend preceded him in death two years ago. He is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. Johnson of Clarissa and Mrs. John (Blanche) Barker of Corona, California; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

He was a dedicated Christian and a member of the Methodist churches of Riceville and Clarissa. His passing is mourned by his many friends in this area.

Relatives and friends from away attending the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Brunson, Gaylord Brunson, Mrs. Fred Dawson, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Inwards and Mrs. Harold Lundblad, all of Parkers Prairie; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Peterson and Mr. and Mrs. Clair Peterson and daughter of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Ohden and Mr. and Mrs. Merlyn Ohden of Williams, Iowa; and Mr. and Mrs. Percy Kagel of Ironton.
