She married Elisha McDowell who was a widower on 23 August 1874 in White County, Illinois. They removed to Decatur County, Iowa where they raised his children from prior marriage to Delila Taylor and together she and Elisha had seven children of their own. Elisha died in 1904 and Dorcas lived with her married daughter Nora McDowell and husband Russell Norman until her death in 1933. According t WPA records, she was buried here but no stone is noted.
