He worked for different lumber companies and sawmills in Arkansas, worked in the Texas and Oklahoma oil fields and also worked in the redwoods of northern California in the mid-1920's. After marrying in 1935, the family moved to Wilmington, California.
With the start of WWII, he became a stage rigger leadman at Consolidated Ship Builders in Wilmington. At the end of WWII, he went back to working at different lumber companies in the Los Angeles Harbor area, retiring from Consolidated Lumber Company (Anaheim Blvd.) at the age of 72.
A Mason for almost 50 years (lacked 6 days of reaching the 50 year mark), and a member of the Carson Southern Baptist Church. Loved and respected by all who knew him.
