Amasa was the 7th of 8 children of Nathan Northrup Nash and Betsey Hollenbeck Williams. He married Eliza Jane Shields Smith, a widow, in 1881 at Oxford Junction, Iowa. They had 1 son, Anson Leroy. Amasa died of pneumonia and tuberculosis at the age of 37.
