Carl E. Lampe, 93, of Tiffin, died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Cleveland Clinic.

Carl was born March 17, 1919, in Fifty-Six, Ark., to Arthur and Carrie (Hedges) Lampe. He married Ada E. Jacoby March 23, 1941, in Wauseon, and she survives in Tiffin. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary March 23 of this year.

He also is survived by three daughters, Janice (James) Betz of Tiffin, Carla (Tony) Rupp of Archbold and Cindy (Tom) Mowery of Marietta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Denise (Charlie) Toil, Michael (Karen) Betz, Melissa Rupp, Rebecca Rupp, Tyler (Aubrey) Rupp, Sarah Mowery and Anthony (Cristi) Ott; six great-grandchildren, Larson and Lola Toil, Avery and Lily Betz and Allison and Peyton Ott; and many nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dennis E. Lampe; a daughter, Donna K. Ott; five brothers, Oscar, Paul, Stuart, Freddy and Harold Lampe; and one sister, Doris Garland.

Carl graduated from Columbian High School in 1937. He then served as a corporal in the United States Army in the 29th Infantry Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop during World War II. He was part of the D-Day mission at Omaha Beach June 6, 1944. Carl received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was self-employed since 1946 as a grocer for many years and owned the first drive-thru beverage center in Tiffin. He retired in 1981. Carl was a friend of St. John's United Church of Christ, Tiffin.

Family and friends may call 10 a.m.-noon, Monday, April 2, 2012, at Traunero Funeral Home and Crematory, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-3113.

A funeral will begin at noon Monday following visitation at the funeral home. The Rev. Pamela Easterday will officiate. Burial will be immediately following at Fairmont Cemetery, Tiffin, with military rites at the gravesite conducted by the United Veterans Council of Seneca County.
