James S. Swaffar, 85, died Saturday (January 1, 1983) at a nursing home at 1600 Kings Highway, Independence, where he lived. He was born in Purdy, Missouri, and had lived in this area 40 years. He was an inspector for the Black Sivall and Bryson Co. until he retired in 1962. Mr. Swaffar was a member of the Rockwood Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War I.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Bland Swaffar, Independence; a son, Burl Swaffar, Raytown; a daughter, Mrs. Cletus Zumalt, Independence; three brothers, John Swaffar, Monett, Missouri; DeWitt Swaffar, Purdy, and Maynard Swaffar, Torrance, California; and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Shaw, Norwalk, California; Mrs. Ella Shepherd, Monett, and Mrs. Mary Wierman, Cassville, Missouri. Services were Wednesday in Monett.
