George Anna Snyder, age 69, was born December 9, 1934 to George W. Hardman and Louise Prater in Clifton, TN. She died Thursday, April 1, 2004 in Midwest City, Oklahoma. George Anna moved to Oklahoma City with her mother in 1948. She
graduated from Northeast High School in 1952. She completed her B. A. from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX in 1956 and graduated from the Worden School of Social Services, San Antonio, TX in 1958 with a Masters Degree in Medical Social Work. On June 20, 1959, she married C.W. (Chuck) Snyder in OKC. George Anna had a dedicated and extensive career in the medical field. She began as a Medical Social Worker in the V.A. Hospital of OKC, 1958-1959; the County Hospital, San Diego from 1959-1960; Jefferson Davis TB Hospital, Houston, TX, 1962-1963, also Serving as the Director of Social Services, 1963-1964. In
1966, she became the Administrator of Godwin Nursing Home. In 1969, she became the President and Administrator of Lora Lane Nursing Home, Inc. also. In addition to a dutiful professional career, her community involvement included
Memberships in the National Academy of Social Workers, Oklahoma Health and Wellness Association, American Health Care Association, OK State Nursing Home Association, Chair-person of the Mid-Del Youth and Family Center Board, a
Community Mental Health board member, Board Member of Community Relations, Midwest City. A Member of The Zonta Club of OKC, Charter member of The Zonta Club of Central Oklahoma, and the first to be awarded the Woman of the Year
Award in 1989 and was a member of Zonta International. George Anna served as a past president of the Eastern Oklahoma County Women's Democratic Organization, 1976-1977, as well as other numerous positions within the organization, serving as a delegate to the National Democratic Convention in 1978; a member of the Our Lady of the Lakes Alumni Association and a member of the Oklahoma State Board of
Registered Social Workers. She served as a tutor for the Literacy Link of Midwest City, a past president and member of the Volunteer Auxiliary of the Midwest Regional Medical Center and served as both President and Chairman of the
Membership Committee for the Committee of 100 of Midwest City/Del City/ Tinker.
In 1980, George Anna was the Oklahoma State Delegate to the National Board of Mental Health in Washington D.C. George Anna is survived by her loving husband, C.W. 'Chuck' Snyder; son, Dennis C. Snyder of Norman, OK; daughter Lora L. Snyder Bender and husband, Jim of Flower Mound, TX; two grandchildren, Sarah P Snyder and Makenzie R. Bender; aunts Clara Wilbanks of OKC, Carrie Ricketts of Clifton, TN, and Osie McClain of Memphis, TN; cousins Carol Shockley and
husband, Kenneth of Mustang, OK, Barbara Black of OKC, DeVaughn Ricketts of Alabama, Billy Joe Ricketts and wife, Francis of North Carolina, Susan Spake and husband, Jim and children, Jill and Jeff of Boise City, OK; step sisters, Sybil Hawley-Scott, Sharon Horton and her son, Lane Horton, Barbara Prosser and husband, David, of Lakeland, FL, and their children, Mike, Kim and Brittany. She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Hawley-Rogers and son, David. She was a wonderful person, a true lady and an inspiration to many whose lives she has touched. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Unit 4-C at Midwest City Regional Medical Center for all their kindness and care. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM, Monday April 5, 2004 at the Paylor Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Resthaven Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sharon Wetz Cancer Foundation, 3555 NW 58th St., OKC, OK 73112.
