Albert Berry

Mr. Albert M. Berry, age 81, Jonesborough, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012, at Four Oaks Health Care Center.

Mr. Berry was born in Carter County, the son of Dan J. and Trula Mae Lowe Berry.

He graduated from Unaka High School and attended Milligan College. After serving in the US Air Force during the Korean War as a Technical Sergeant, he graduated from East Tennessee State University.

He was a respected member of the banking industry in Johnson City for many years. He was a member of the Johnson City Rotary Club and served as a president of the North Johnson City Business Club. He retired from SunTrust Bank in 1996 as vice president.

He was married to Margaret Anne Potter Berry for over 55 years. He was a loving father to Jeffrey Alan Berry and a proud grandfather of Elijah and Marlee Berry. He also provided care and support to many family members throughout their lives.

Being involved in church was an important aspect of his life. He grew up in Caldwell Springs Baptist Church in Elizabethton. He served as deacon at First Baptist Church in Jonesborough. He became a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Jonesborough where he also served as a deacon and provided leadership on Building Steering Committees. He was a member of the Challengers Sunday School Class.

After his retirement, he enjoyed building and remodeling. A prized accomplishment was the renovation of his home place in Stoney Creek in Elizabethton.

Mr. Berry was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pearl Dick and Irene Tucker, of Elizabethton; and his only son, Jeffrey Alan Berry, of Jonesborough.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ann Potter Berry, Jonesborough; grandson, Elijah Taylor Berry and granddaughter, Marlee Irene Berry, Jonesborough; his daughter-in-law, Kathryn Moore Berry, Jonesborough; sister-in-law, Joyce Elizabeth Potter, Jonesborough; and sisters, Murrell Persick, Maryland, Kate Berry, Virginia, Kaye Berry, Virginia, Edna Eitel and husband, William Eitel, Delaware, and Linda Davis, Virginia. He is also survived by several special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2012, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Harrod and Rev. Robert English officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service.

Interment services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at Highland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eli Berry, Tony Maden, John Ruetz, Shannon Tipton, Mike Tucker, Jim Tucker, Carey Johnson, Bernd Arnold, Kenneth Persick and Eddie Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Good, Bill Donaldson, Kyle Simmerman, Ken Glover, Jake Southerland, Dick Miller, Jack Wilhoit, Clyde Tipton, Pete Kilbourne, Don Garst, Ross Lindley, Mason Cantrell, Ron Stout, Ross Lindley and Homer Wilson.
