James Evan Dutton, age 25, of Checotah, OK died in Logar Province, Afghanistan on March 31, 2012 while honorably serving his second tour for the US Army. He was born on Christmas Day, 1986, to James K. and Trina M. Dutton. James "Little James" was raised in Weleetka, OK. He was very active in sports, and loved to go camping and fishing and especially enjoyed picking on his sisters. James later moved with his parents to Checotah, OK where he served as a firefighter for the Lotawatah Rural Fire Department and worked for Winkle's Hardware until joining the US Army. Following basic training, James was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, NY where he worked as a firefighter and mechanic. While in Fort Drum, James made many friends and acquired a new nickname, "Jed". In 2008, James had a son, William Tyler Anderson and in 2009, shortly after the birth of his son, James was deployed to Afghanistan. He returned stateside in 2010 and in October of 2011, James was transferred to Fort Bliss, TX. In February of 2012, James was deployed for a second time to Afghanistan. James loved the US Army and planned on long career serving his country. He believed in and loved what he was doing and that is where he wanted to be. James was preceded in death by his sister, Kimberly Ann Dutton; grandfather, James H. Dutton; grandmother, Ruby M. Dutton; and his great grandfather, Sgt. Charles William "CW" Kincannon. James was loved by his friends and family who will dearly miss him. A memorial service will be held Wednesday April 18, 2012, at Fort Bliss, TX. A funeral service for James will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Checotah with Pastor Steve Dennis and Rev. Don Williamson officiating. Interment will be at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Fort Sill Honor Guard.
