Larry was the son of William Harley and Ruth (Wurtz) Howery. Larry William Howery was just a few months old when his parents, brothers and sisters moved from a farm in Linn Co. Kansas to Tipton Indiana. He loved music and played on a guitar for his own amusement. He also loved basketball and he played intramural basketball in High School. After High School he still went to basketball games to watch the niece's and nephew's play ball. Larry never married, but he did take care of his mother Ruth after his father William Harley died, until the last of Ruth's years.
