Sister Agnes Louise Paulus, CSA (Venard), 88, died on May 30, 2006 at St. Francis Home, 33 Everett Street in Fond du Lac, where she had been a resident for the past five years.

Sister Agnes Louise was born November 19, 1917 in Beloit, Wisconsin, a daughter of Jack and Louise Goldsworthy Paulus. Being impressed by the Sisters who taught her at Brother Dutton School in Beloit she entered the Congregation of Saint Agnes in 1932 and professed her vows on August 15, 1936.

At the age of 16 Sister began her teaching ministry as she taught kindergarten in New London, WI. For the next fifty years Sister was involved in the field of Catholic education, first teaching elementary and secondary schools in Wisconsin, Illinois, and New York. In 1958 Sister went to Marian College in Fond du Lac as an Associate professor, teaching philosophy and English composition for 16 years and then served as Director of Alumni Relations for the College. After completing 25 years of service at Marian College Sister retired, only to continue sharing the light of God's love through a multitude of ways including volunteering at the Fond du Lac Senior Center, the Taycheedah Correctional Institute, Saint Agnes Hospital and Grancare Nursing Home.

Sister tried in many ways to bring Christ to people, mostly through social action. She saw her life as "lighting little candles". As she grew older she developed her ministry of writing and she wrote articles and multiple letters to the editor "praying that good be encouraged and people be moved to right action, whether in politics, the world of entertainment, education, or the media." Sister is remembered for her deep commitment to peace and justice, pro-life issues, and ecumenism.

Sister Agnes Louise is survived by two step-sisters, Mary Higgins of Highland Park, IL and Jane Duggan of Santee, CA, cousins, and by the members of the Congregation of Saint Agnes with whom she lived and ministered.

Sister was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Paulus and two sisters, Margaret Cubasch and Helen Patrick.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00P.M. on Friday, June 2, 2006 at St. Francis Home Chapel at 33 Everett St. in Fond du Lac. The Rev. Edward Sippel will be the celebrant.
