Sarah MacArthur Meggett and Alexander had three sons and three daughters. He sent for his wife and children in 1828 (along with her son from a previous marriage, Judge McArthur, Washington, DC). Prior to embarking on the ship, a daughter died suddenly. Heartbroken, Sarah left her daughter with friends to be buried in Scotland. Another daughter, Catherine died in infancy (in RI). Another daughter, Mrs. Alvin C. Robbins of Saylesville, RI. Matthew along with his college classmates, died in war. John, the eldest was a medical and district attorney living in Worcester, MA.
