Helen Marie Penfield was the daughter of John Giddings Penfield and Mary Elizabeth Crosby. She was a member of the State Street Baptist Church and a charter member of the literary society, "Outlook Club". She was also a director of the YWCA and a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. In addition, she was a member of the board of directors for the McFarlane Children's Home and the North Rockford Hospital.
On May 13, 1880 she married Edwin Morton Revell. This union produced three children:

*Edwin Morton Revell, Jr.
*Constance E. Revell
