Was Father of Late Mayor John R. Southam;
Rites Yesterday.

Edwin C. Southam, 89, father of the late John R. Southam, world war hero and former mayor of Berea, died Monday in his home, 298 South Rocky River Drive, Berea.

Mr. Southam had been a resident of Berea for sixty-five years. Born in Strongsville in 1846, he moved to Berea in 1869 and has lived here ever since. He was a contractor and carpenter and did his last work last fall when he built two houses in Strongsville. While shingling one of them he became ill, and has been ill ever since. He was a charter member of the Cuyahoga County Agricultural Society.

Six children, eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren survive him. The sons and daughters are William Southam, Berea; Corbett Southam, Elyria captain of police; Fred Southam, Memphis, Tennessee; Mrs. Blanche Wedel, Strongsville; Mrs. Edith Dunlea, Berea; and Mrs. Edna Riel, Fremont, Ohio.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon in the Haag Funeral Home. Burial was in Woodvale cemetery.
