Earlier, he had worked as a newspaper reporter and as a representative of several western and midwestern companies. The couple had two children: Harry Alexander, Jr. (1909-1938) and Mary Isabelle (1911-1968). Both are buried, as is their mother Olive, in Evergreen Cemetery, Paris, TX.
