Courtney Ann (Toney) Holmes was the daughter of William H. Toney & Laura Jane (Gray) Toney of old Pike County, Mississippi. That portion of eastern Pike County (as well as western Marion County) was made Walthall County by the State Legislature in 1914. Prior to that, on the 13th of February 1909 Courtney Ann Toney & Isaac Jacob Holmes were married in old Pike County. Uncle Jake built a house in front of his parent's old homeplace which still survives (2017) on the Firetower Road. All the land in this area on both sides of the present-day road had belonged to his father, Thomas H. Holmes. This is where Uncle Jake had his farm and where he and Aunt Courtney lived their remaining days. The family were of the Baptist faith. There were six children of this union to live to maturity:
1. Laura Irene Holmes Ratliff,
2. William Thomas "W.T." Holmes,
3. Norman Clifford Holmes,
4. Hilda Lee Holmes (1918-1932),
5. Emma "Rita" Mae Holmes Anglin,
6. "Syble" Kathleen Holmes Anglin.
