Jennette was the daughter of Isaac Newton Wakefield (1867 Tennessee—1946 Galveston) and Cecile Brouillette (1889 Louisiana—1959 La Porte). Her father married at age 50 to Cecile Brouillette, a young widow with children. He and Cecile farmed in Brazoria County, Texas and later Atascoso County where Jennette was born in 1931. She was the last of a number of children—D.N.;Addie Ann; Emmitt Newton; Robert James; Emanuel "Hoppy"; and Ruth Ann in addition to her step siblings. Isaac moved his family to the coastal area around 1945, and his family lived in La Porte. Isaac died at age 79 in the Marine Hospital in Galveston. Jennette was 15 when her father died. Her mother Cecile lived on 112 Vinsonia Street in Morgan's Point until dying in 1959. Her father was buried in Morgan's Point Cemetery and her mother was buried in Pasadena.
Jeannette married Louis Clayton Arthur (1928 La Porte, Texas —1992 Harris County, Texas) on September 4, 1948 in Harris County. Louis C. Arthur was born to Hugh Andrew Arthur (1869 Rains County, Texas–1946 Houston, Texas) and Jimmy Baker Arthur (1896 Hunt County Texas—1958 Harris County, Texas). Louis' father was a boatman and a long-time resident of Morgan's Point. His father had six children from his first marriage and eleven more children with his second wife Jimmie Baker. Louis was the eighth child of his father's second marriage. Louis was surrounded by siblings and cousins in Morgan's Point in his early years. He attended school through 7th grade, and by 1946, he worked for ITT towing company. Louis's parents are buried in Pearland, Texas. Louis is buried, according to his wife's grave marker, in Morgan's Point Cemetery.
