At Hefner Junior High, Leah was active in the Spanish Club in 8th grade and the Spanish Club and Speech Club in 9th grade. At Putnam City North High School, she was active in Drama. Sadly, she was born with a weak valve in her heart, and she was not expected to live even a few years. She surprised her doctors and delighted her parents, however, by living a full 18 years, thus surviving to adulthood, before succumbing to her heart condition. The phrase "Who's To Say?" on her tombstone was Leah's "catch phrase," which she got from a Martin Short skit on Saturday Night Live. Leah was a courageous young lady for delighting in life and taking it one year at a time, each year giving her another reason to chuckle at her pessimistic doctors.
