He married Eliza E. Bingham and they had three daughters, Barbara Ellen (Tharp) Peck, Ethyl (Tharp) Holtz, and Florence (Tharp) Baker. Barbara Peck was my great aunt.
A Coroner's report says that John Wesley Tharp died from a self-inflicted cut across his throat.

The third picture to the right is of the cabin built by Sam Deon, a French Trader, that was purchased by John Wesley Tharp which remains in LaPorte, Colorado. The Tharp family occupied this cabin between 1879 and 1939. In later years, the daughter of Eliza Bingham and her second husband (William Gardner), Ethyl Holtz, used it for a beauty shop.
