From the Faribault Daily News:

Smallpox claimed its second victim in Faribault this morning when Leland Jones, prominent Faribault business man, passed away after an illness of ten days. Death came this morning shortly after 8 o'clock. Mr. Jones was taken ill less than two weeks ago and had been critically ill for ten days. A private funeral will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock, and the body will be laid to rest in Maple Lawn cemetery.

Leland Jones was born in Faribault Feb. 3, 1893, and had spent practically his entire life in this city. On September 1, 1916, he was married to Miss Hazel Miller of Crosby, Minn., who survives him. For a number of years Mr. Jones was associated with F. F. Nutting in the operation of a photographic studio, later going into business for himself. For the past three years he has operated the studio in the Security Bank building. Mr. Jones was a member of the Faribault Municipal band, the Faribault Masonic order, the Eastern Star, the Elks and the Chamber of Commerce, and was always active in civic affairs of the city. He was also a member of the Cathedral parish. During the World War he was commissioned in the photographic division of the ordinance department, but the signing of the armistice prevented his going into active service.

Beside his widow, Mr. Jones is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline, aged three, and his mother, Mrs. George W. Sellers of Faribault. He is also survived by an aged grandmother, Mrs. Harriet Jones, with whom he made his home for a great many years. He is also survived by an uncle, Fred Jones, also of this city, and three sisters, Mrs. Harvard Alguire of Sioux Falls, S. D., and Miss Leota and Miss Bernice Brewster of Faribault and one brother, Harry Brewster.

Mr. Jones was known to a great many Faribault residents and his death came as a severe blow to all who knew him. He was active in the affairs of the community, and his death will be mourned by scores who came into close contact with him during the many years that he has lived in the city.
