HOYT – J. Neil Morrissey, 89, of Hoyt, died Friday, April 6, 2012 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

He was born November 30, 1922 in Topeka, the son of Charles M. and Grace Kennedy Morrissey. He graduated from Mayetta Rural High School in 1940.

Neil worked at Beech Aircraft in Wichita. He moved to Jackson County in 1947 where he farmed and raised cattle. He had also worked at the Supply Depot at Pauline in the mid 1950's. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta and the National Farmers Organization.

He married Mary Louise Stanley on February 27, 1943 at Wichita. She died September 6, 1992. He married Donna M. Smith on November 30, 1996. She died August 2, 2009.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ellen Fahey Farmer and a son-in-law Jim Lutz.

Survivors include one son, John Morrissey and wife Vicki, Wetmore; two daughters, Beverly Lutz, Lenexa, and Betsy Montieth and husband Ron, Olathe; two sisters, Marguerite Hale, Leavenworth, and Grace Ann Bay and husband Wayne, Topeka; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10th at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Mayetta. Burial will follow in the Mayetta Cemetery. Neil will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Monday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt where a parish rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., followed by visitation. Memorials are suggested to the J. Neil Morrissey Memorial Fund, to be designated later, and may be sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 280, 66440.
